DAY 5

Dear Readers!

On Wednesday the 11th of March 2020 we got up at 7am and did our daily routine. As usual we ate our chocolate cornflakes and drank our orange juice and then we got ready for school. Our host family had provided us with a room with many cupboards and a small bathroom. In our room there was a bunk bed and a single bed, there was also a big window and a power socket, thank god. The house was in an area where the all houses looked alike, 25 minutes by bus from Eyre Square.

Our host family were very friendly but chaotic people and, most unfortunately, we only saw them during dinner.

We found it really relaxing that school didn't start until 9:30, but if you have more than four lessons a day you can't do anything in the afternoon. That is why we like our Austrian school times a lot better.

This morning none of us was especially excited, because we had got a new teacher and sadly enough, he was a pretty boring chap.  What got us really mad in the end was that we had to write a report. However, writing would not have been the problem, but how we were supposed to get the  information for it, we did not approve of. We had to go to the shopping centre and ask people a few questions. Yeah, it isn’t exciting but rather embarrassing to ask strangers, because most of them were in a hurry and didn’t even answer you properly. The fact that it was raining pretty heavily made everything worse. We had to run back to school in the rain and when we arrived we were soaking wet. Some had actually (really wise decision)brought their hairdryers and managed to get their clothes from dripping to damp.

After that awful experience our day turned out to be really nice in the end even though the torrential rain annoyed almost everyone.

We visited the Aquarium in Salthill which wasn’t that big, but we liked it. There were many fish and other creatures to look at. The guide was really friendly and explained really well.

It was an enjoyable experience, because we got to touch a few fish, feed them and we were able to hold lobsters and starfish.

Unfortunately we were already too exhausted after the aquarium and the interviews to watch a movie and went home to spend some time with our host family- and so did many from our group. But the few who went to the cinema told us that the film wasn’t really good and that the cinema was virtually empty due to people being afraid of catching the Corona virus- which must have been quite a different experience.

To conclude this post we are going to tell you two fun facts that we were told by our guide in the aquarium. The first one is that some piranhas won’t bite you when you put your hand in the tank, pretty cool, because they are always portrayed as scary creatures on television. The second one  is that out of all animals in the entire animal kingdom only male seahorses undergo pregnancy and give birth to their offspring.

We hope you have enjoyed our blog post, see you next time.
